When asked by the prosecution if he considered King to be an animal, Officer Powell replied that King “was acting like one … because of his uncontrollable behavior” (Courtroom Television Network 1992). In other words, King was bestial to the extent that he could not feel and therefore could resist the baton blows. Animalistic anesthesia to pain provided a negative aura that...
Oppression and Anesthesia
Oppression and Anesthesia
Maintaining privilege and continuing to oppress a group of people is only possible when oppressors can see the people they oppress as less than fully human. A major tactic in the dehumanizing process is the oppressor’s anesthesia, numbing oneself so as to be unable to empathize with the people they are relegating to a sub-human status. BREAKING: 12 Activists Arrested in Spain, Being... →
becausewemustdotorg:
Twelve animal rights and environmental activists have been arrested in Spain and are being labeled “eco-terrorists.” Little information is available about this developing story right now, but some of the activists have worked with Igualdad Animal on open rescues, walking into factory farms where animals were being abused, documenting the animal welfare violations, and then...
The Spanish 12 →
The activists involved in today’s arrest were arrested because of their effectiveness. Industry groups and authorities, along with many in the movement, recognized this group was doing some of the best above ground work in the entire world and the pressure to thwart that progression came to a boiling point today. Javier Moreno offered his take saying, “As they have no one to charge...
PLEASE REBLOG MY LAST POST ABOUT THE SPANISH 12
We need as many people as possible to see that story today.

While we’ll always have a love and fascination for baby animals, like those taken by Sharon Montrose, or even majestic creatures that are in their prime, like those shot by Andrew Zuckerman, it’s not often that we pay respect to the ones who are at the end of their lives, the ones who’ve lived through countless stories that you can see them etched on their weary...

Pretty much the only thing I'd have to eliminate is alcohol, which I currently drink rarely, but I'm finding it pretty hard to do, since I like the taste of some things, and it's pretty much the only socially "normal" thing I still do. :P
